I know you can see my eyes light up
And the way my crooked smile cracks so easily
I know you can see through me
Into the depths where no one is allowed to be
I know you can hear me
My laugh, my cry, the worry

But do you know how my heart feels?
Can you feel the way it seems to falter?
If I could hold it in my hands
You'd see all of the scars
If you could see the fights I've fought
Could you hold onto it too?
Or would it scar you the same?

When I am here all alone
It's all in my head
I know you feel the way I do
Why can't these walls just break down
Will the fear of everything just leave us alone?
Or will it pry and eat until our very last breath
Because where is the beauty in that?

The life I can dream of
It is all the beauty and none of the pain
It's always too good to be true
But I promise I won't lose site
I've seen dreams come to life
and my scars can prove it
even if they hide like monsters in the night
resilience is all about pride
