how did you feel?
the day you heard.
did it come through the receiver?

words are weapons
how deep they pierce you
but this time the exit wound was cleaner

in the moment
your stomach, it twists
all of you feels engulfed by fire

on the wrong end
of that fateful last call
only wanting to joke that they're a liar

grasping at straws
thinking you're wrong?
you try to continue like nothing happened

the excuses and trajectories
they doom us all
masked by self deprecation and well wishes

give it a few days
it'll burn to the ground
and you'll have to turn to face the flame

from fire and wrecks
earth and the Pacific
turn back around and walk away

you're safe now
you can't be touched here
and after all that you're stronger than you think
