When you look
at the fence
of the little boy
standing there,
dapple dog in tow,
and watch him grow,
glimpsing, for a second,
a touch on the mound
of stone, carrying the weight
of the dapple dog in tow,
and see the ardor
pouring from behind
the no-longer-little
boy's fence,
you see friendship
taking its time,
yet preparing to draw
the curtains closed.
