When you see me laugh
Can you see the windows we looked out of yesterday,
Following the bikers carefree on a windswept road?

When you see me smile,
Can you see the gratitude of a hundred weeks
In the hand of the woman who held my head for a fraction of eternity?

When you see me swallow my fears,
Can you see the light of a million shadows,
Haunting the corridors I crossed at gun point?

When you see me skipping,
Can you see the spring of a dozen deers,
Cantering around a stumbling toddler’s gaze?

When you see me cry,
Can you see the tiers and the endless gallows,
Washing away blood as an afterthought?

I dream, fluttering.
The fluttering of souls.
