i can't help but exhale
when the frigid air fills my mouth.
my teeth are in numbing pain
as the taste of you leaves my lips
and swallowing feels like an impossible task

before long,
i can't feel you, i can't see you
anymore
and everything just aches;
but it's expected.

i just wonder how much more
of this i can take
