the thunderclaps in the night
purple dust clouds the light.
dogs on fences howl at moon
shadows on the floors of rooms.
crickets in the burnt grass call
cold rain falls on houses tall.

purple dust clouds the light
strong winds, a cold backbite.
the cats in an alley eat a fish
golden moon dangles like a dish.
whistlers banging windowpanes
brown rainwater in storm drains.

shadows on the floors of rooms
whispered voices softly croon.
a child falls into a deep sleep
after counting leaping sheep.
a music box plays it's chords
creaking in the old floorboards.

cold rain falls on houses tall
above, a golden nugget meatball.
crows in the field circle around
beaks pick seed up off the ground.
people shutting off streetlights
families settling in for the night.
