It's amazing and a tragedy that some of our youth, don't know their history
An era of remarkable leadership and protest alike, forgetting the struggle and the good fight
We voted, we rested, our sorrows and woes lessened
As things seemed to get better, and our lives were not as hard
The treasures of lies, deceit, and unworthiness were planted in our backyards
Oh, little did we know that this time would come, for us to show up
and start digging up the wrong that had been done
Soldiers we lost along the way, as we sheltered our young from all the hate
What should I say to my son who knows nothing of his past?
Looking for images and words that will last
I want him to know that he is stronger than he thinks
Guiding his light is no easy fate
The richness in culture is okay too, but I want him to know, "there is so much more to you"
He needs to know that being "woke" is not just a quote, it's more
like the rhythm of his life, which is not a joke
