All I wanted was to finish first
A way to value my own self-worth
To walk with pride
Head held high
Nothing scripted;
Unrehearsed
Hands raised in true victory form
Unlike the consistently meager norm
Just once to feel the cheers out loud
To walk amongst the peerless clouds
The silver lining
The light of day
A victory they can’t take away
Trophies, medals,
Certificates
I want it all to boost my confidence
The feeling of triumph and joy
To rise above;
The real McCoy
