Its weighing me down, the pain, the shame To be part of a race that's put people in chains Yet who I am to seek validation For feelings I have when there’ve been no reparations For the people who've carried and endured beyond belief And to this day have had little relief
I try to think of ways for change Nothing short of the system being maimed Maybe one life I'll step in their shoes And fight for fair treatment of my skin colour's hues So I can live a life that's equal and just And have what you’ve taken for granted and let rust
