I want to be
The grass beneath your feet

I want to be
The cold, wet concrete

I want to be
The sand masked in heat

I want to be
The rocks that cut you deep

I want to be
The dirt that covers your cleats

I want to be
The ground you walk on
So carefully

I always want to be this close to you

I envy how often
It touches your soles
Grasping on, if only for a moment
Rushing up
Through your legs
Through your body
Through your soul

Each step makes you who you are
Each step takes you a little further from me
Took a different direction than I thought it would, but, I don't hate it.
