Dec 2019
the rearview mirror lit
up your
eyes in tinges
stained red,
white, and
blue

the transient
town passed
our
weary , heavy
hearts

the map led us nowhere
in particular, and
we almost
crossed the threshold
there was a war
of the utmost extent
on the other side,
so we never did

the war within weighed
heavy upon us,
and our love
dispersed in
the night
the nights felt long,
like a passing car
on a highway
into the abyss
of nothingness

we parted ways and
drove down separate
freeways past
liquor stores,
and palm trees galore.
