Jul 2019
my brain has been running circles
louder than leaves under foot
seems perhaps i’ve gotta brush off the soot
kick-tossed around and scuffed up the sides of it
try to grab hold of my thoughts but they slip in and don’t stick
getting lost in the rotten thick thump of it
just when i think it’s crossed the finish line it starts again
breathe in breathe out hushes and pass them to my only friend
grasping at straws they bend
and around one my consciousness quick-swiftly disappears again
amen
i pray out loud to no one
old ways are back ready for more fun
with you i called it quits and done but here you are with me
we’ll exist in heaven for a week before we see the green
