May 2010
The secret night of the needful storm
Lies thundering on the plain
Releasing static of unknown warmth
Into the coldest rain

All the winds of change were released
Throughout the grassy meadows
As lightning strikes upon the peace
And illuminates the shadows

The secrets lying hidden underneath
The grasses fine as feathers
Emerge released from all their sheaths
To see what is the matter

Tiny faces there with wrinkled brows
Howl in increasing need
As they stare at me with mournful scowls
Like I’ve disturbed their peace

In silent fear my only thought to flee
Not a sound to make I dare
Then with a sigh of such relief I see
That their mother isn’t there
