O Night! Thou art the locus of calm
For thee Iā€™d sing many a song and psalm
Thou art where quietness lies
Thou art a place where there are no lies

O Nyx! Thou hast the ultimate reign
Over the dark domain
All of the gods rule in the day,
Yet only thou rulest when the light fades away

When thou reignest, the eye cannot see
Only minds are endowed with sight
Thou givest my mind the power to be
Capable of seeing the light

Thou inspirest me to have many a thought
Mostly thoughts that are sad
In the blinding darkness I sought
Refuge, and for that I am truly glad

I am glad that I found in the darkness of night
What I could not find in the light of day
A peace of mind that resolved my plights
A peace that came after a long delay
