First homeward
wave
awakening
this sleepy
south side
beach this
morning,

first sigh
of bodies
stirring
in the other
room.

breaks the
morning still,

open
sky of
black
and blue,
over head.

a lace trimmed
ribbon
around your
bed.

your kids
will be
up soon
and to
them you
will be
life itself,

from the
womb to
years gone
past with
a wink of
a eye.

and you
would not
want
your life any
other way,

not a
turn that
you took
to get here
to this
moment
would you
change. and

I stand
from afar
and only
see
perfection,

like sun to
moon and
then back
again

the day
begins,

a celebration

of you.
