Cotton candy melted
The sugar lasted for just a few seconds as it hardened on the roof of my mouth
Dad walked behind me, the boards whimpered beneath his weight
The clapping of his flip-flops halted

Eyes scanned horizontally
Lacking expression, I found myself abandoned
I continued until it was unsettled beneath the boards I paraded
Sound of waves drowned out the scene

Eyes scanned vertically
Red water washed the posts that supported my weight
Father's stare struck me
His empty face was filled by water

He lingered while I sustained movement
Walking forward, looking back
Sandals flew off my feet
Desperately, I escaped his scrutiny

I fell off the last board into the sea
