LUCK OR BEAUTY ?
She was so ugly, with a forlorn look;
she looked at her reflection with a shock.
She accused her vile mirror of deceit.
Then she believed it and lost all self trust.

She went to see a sorceress whose fame
had filled the region where she used to live.
She prescribed her a herb that grew so far.
She went to have that plant to please her heart.

The way was rough, and she came to a land.
Their queen had died and they would give the throne
to that lass who would pass their bereft state,
and had an ugly face like their late queen.

She sat on her new throne and thanked her luck
that gave her such a look to be a queen.
If she'd been charming like her neighbours' girl,
She'd have had such a spouse so rough and mean.
