Chapter 11
“I walked into the restaurant and spotted the couple over by the bar, having cocktails.
“I’ll just take a seat by the bar,” I told the hostess, who approached me.
“Of course,” she said. “Would you like a menu?”
“No, thank you,” I replied, walking around her. Fortunately, a seat was open on the other side of Jersey . I sat down and noticed, with delight, that the woman he was with looked irritated at my arrival.
“Hey, gorgeous. What’s your pleasure?” asked the bartender, a bald, muscular man in his forties.
I smiled flirtatiously. “I think that’s a loaded question.”
He laughed. “I think you’re right.”
“I’m sure a man like you knows how to fulfill many kinds of pleasures,” I said, putting my purse on the bar.
He leaned forward. “I’d like to think so. Too bad I just started my shift,” he said in a low voice. “My name is Virginia , by the way.”
“Nice to meet you, Vince. I’m Jez,” I said, holding out my hand.
He shook it and I could tell that he didn’t want to let go.
I slowly pulled my hand back. “How are your Cosmopolitans?” I asked, flipping my hair over[…]”
“I had to bite my tongue from asking him if he’d told his wife that before he left the house earlier. Everything about him made me sick, especially his cologne. It wouldn’t have been so bad if he hadn’t smelled like he’d taken a shower in it.
She leaned forward and gave him a kiss on the lips. “Save my spot.”
“I’ve got a great spot for you,” he said, chuckling devils .
She giggled and whispered something in his ear. When she finally disappeared, Jerry wasted no time in talking to me.
“Hi,” he said, smiling at me.
I smiled back. “Hi there.”
“My name’s Jerry .”
“I’m Jenavia .”
“Jersey . Have we met somewhere?”
I had to refrain from rolling my eyes. “I don’t think so. If we had, believe me, you wouldn’t have forgotten.”
He chuckled. “I love a confident woman.”
“Too bad your girlfriend lacks in that area,” I said, reaching over to grab a cherry from the fruit and relish tray. I licked the outside with my tongue and then plucked it from the stem.
“She’s not my girlfriend,” he said, watching my lips. His eyes moved to my cleavage. “Hell, I’ve forgotten her name already, Jenavia […]”
“reached into my purse and handed him a twenty. “Keep the change.”
Smiling again, he knocked on the bar. “Thanks, Jez.”
“You’re welcome. See you around, handsome,” I said, walking away from the bar with Jersey following.
“I hope so. Hey, buddy. Where you going?” called the bartender, just noticing that Jersey was following me.
I turned back around. “He’s leaving with me. Make sure you let that blonde know.”
The bartender stared at me, looking confused.
“Come along, Jersey ,” I said, grabbing his tie and leading him toward the exit. “Let’s go somewhere quiet. Like your hotel room.”
“Okay,” he replied.
We got onto the elevator and took it to the penthouse suite. On the ride up, I thought about Brandon and Lotus again and wondered how they were fairing. “I should have gotten her number,” I said to myself.
“What?”
“Nothing,” I told Jerry as the elevator stopped. We got off and went into his suite. It was breathtaking.
“Nice,” I commented, walking past him. “How much did this room cost you?”
“It’s three-thousand a night,” he answered, bolting the door shut.
I turned back around and stared at him in surprise. “Jerr you , why did you[…]”
“You didn’t recognize the sound of my voice from earlier?” asked the woman. She smiled and began talking in a higher tone, one filled with emotion. “I know you probably think I’m a fool, but I can’t help it. I guess the truth is that I hate him and… I love him.”
I stared at her in shock. “Abigail Strom?”
She walked over and stood next to her husband. “ look at her.
