Spoilers: (I usually don't bother listing these, but I mean - I might as well.) 1) The ants are a reference to the game "Katherine" where they are said to be "Messengers of witches", I did try to look whether it was actually part of any folklore btw, but found nothing. If you know more, I'm more than interested. 2) In Japanese culture, salt is considered sacred and is used to ward off evil spirits. 3) Basalt is formed by rapid cooling of lava exposed on surface - this is what the dark visible parts of the moon are made of. 4) Bloodstone is supposed to be a stone preserving health and youth and have an ability to call rain or to cause a solar eclipse - I don't have it from a reliable source though. (it's like 3th paragraph on Wiki) 5) the poem has 13 paragraphs (13 being an unlucky number in western cultures) and every odd line has 4 syllables (4 being unlucky number in eastern cultures)
