God only knows
He's thinking of her.
When lying
Wrapped up in another.
God only knows he doesn't love her.

God only knows
Her last thought
While lying on the glassy road
Was his morning hello,
Morphing into her fold.

God only knows
How cold he is,
Stooped in the snow and mist.
God only knows
How his life drifts.

God only knows
She will never leave his side.
He burnt her spirit, he stole her light.
God only knows
How she fears the night.

God only knows
He can't pay them back.
He takes in her smile, his final night.
God only knows
The gun on his back.

God only knows
Today he met her.
God only knows
The weight of their words when their shadows blurred.
God only knows
Their shared today's and tomorrow's,
Their future joys and sorrows.
God only knows
The future laughter they will share.
God only knows
The kisses they will bare,
God only knows
The child they will care.
God only knows
She will be there to hear his last goodbye.
God only knows
How with every laugh, she gave him life.
God only knows
