Jan 2019
sometimes the brightest stars
are the ones who shine
among airplanes and satellites,
cellphone towers that are just too tall,
foreigners in the night sky.

you know it’s really a star
if it blinds you
and outshines the rest of the sky
in the most keen way possible,
making you wonder
if it really belongs here
or if it’s supposed to be light years away
in a galaxy far bigger than ours.
today is my friend’s 17th birthday , and probably the last one she’ll spend in our small little town. she’s on to bigger and better things.
she’s a star.
