Days since snowfall,
cold enough to stop the waves,
lakes wastes,
rivers roads,
solid,
and discreetly concrete.
Running across them,
quick plodding movements,
pumping life into frozen air,
diffusing it across the wind,
and if you reach that bank,
you'll see that there is no way back
