what precious secrets
your eyes reveal

what luscious words
your teeth conceal

i am sorry
for reaching out

hugging your wrist
to my chest

i was checking
for a pulse

and for a minute
there was nothing i hated more in this world
than you

i think
for a moment
you understood
the fear

in the corner of my eye
as i dashed past the old mill
i saw you break down
on your knees

and i still ran.
