Cumulus clouds

building up

like a child's

preschool

blocks on

the horizon.

neatly placed

one on
top of
the other.

uncertain what

their final

form might be.
and beneath them

we dangle
and tangle

in mid
afternoon
conversation

looking for
a word

stretching for
an emotion.

what left
footed

dancers
our hearts

we have

become…

both of us

unwilling
to be

the first
to admit

that our
relationship

wasn't ever
love

to begin
with.
