The pitter-patter of words
From the next room
As the rain comes down
Outside
From the rooftops you can see
For miles
Getting soaked is worth
The price
Of getting out

The gentle exchange
Escalates
Climbing the ladder
Of fear and confusion
Footsteps begin to take the reigns
Heading for the door
And that's when the initiative kicks in
Just as the doorknob's touched
The back door is flung open
And outsteps the man
You thought you knew

On the way
On his way
Out
To the place
Where your eyes
Where your ears
Are free
