Everything is ***
except the thing itself
don’t confuse the one
with expression of the first

don’t confuse the two aspects
though that is the intent
when your masters describe
a world put to your eyes

the need propels discourse
evoked for money’s sake
turning round the wheel
displaying the brass ring

hinting what lays beyond
promise to be denied
still the masses sup the drink
as the thirst is widespread

forgive the leading edge
that gives nothing at the end
the design has been set
as old as humankind

when the real is embraced
possession is reticent
asking for interchange
not sold for to ravenous.

The poem “Everything is ***” was inspired by Oscar Wilde’s quote, “Everything in the world is about *** except ***. *** is about power.”
