I have this haunting feeling

that there’s a secret side of you I don’t even know.

There are times when you keep things so well tucked away

that I don’t realize what you are thinking or dealing with

until eventually, one of those things manifests itself in other ways,

and you share just enough to give me a glimpse

from the surface.

I want to know all of you,

so that I can love all of you;

the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I don’t want to wake up twenty-five years from now wondering,

“Who this person is lying beside me?”

I want to know

beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I want to finish your sentences for you,

even if only in my head.

But, part of me likes surprises;

likes the mystique and the mystery,

likes the way you keep me guessing,

likes the way I am still discovering who you are.

So, as long as you keep on peeling,

I’ll keep on loving you -

one layer at a time.
