Please don't say 'don't cry my love'
Please don't say 'don't cry please'

When you say 'please don't cry' my love
The pain and hurt it does not ease

Please don't say 'don't cry my love'
Please don't say 'please don't cry'

I know you want to ease my pain
But let me tell you why

It's like saying 'please don't fall'
To the golden autumn leaves

They may be many or may be few
But they the must leave their burdened tree

No matter how loyal they remain
To their saddened master

There's a stronger force - deep inside
That expels them ever faster

So well we know the deep hollow darkness
As impending winter draws ever near

Then sorrow spreads all around us
Even to those we hold so dear

As time goes by it seems as if
This constant flow will never cease

When we gaze to the one we love
And find pain instead of peace

But there comes a time, when it does end
When the tree is exposed and bare

Then the wind arrives to gather the leaves
Taking them to the one who does care

Now when my caring one does come
To mend the tree that seems broken

The caring one finds - deep in the soul
There something that has spoken

So you my caring one, must now know
The leaves had to leave their wary host

For if they had remained
There'd be no space for repair or new growth

So please don't say 'don't cry my love'
Please don't say 'don't cry please'

When you say 'please don't cry' my love
The pain and hurt it does not ease

Please don't sat 'don't cry' my love
Please don't say 'please don't cry'

I know you want to ease my pain
But remember the autumn leaves - and understand why
