When you're young
your parents read fairy tales to you
creating this misconception that no matter where you start
you end up with your own unique happily ever after

But
then you get to high school
having to read different Shakespeare plays
wondering why not a single one ends with a happily ever after

You'll grow up and learn that
you have been living your life with rose colored glasses on

Glasses your parents glued to your face when you were born
in the hopes of protecting your soul

You'll grow up and realize that as the years went by
the glue started to wear away
allowing you to take the glasses off

Eager you take them off
and get hit by a wave of reality

Reality that the world is scary
Reality that the world is made up of bad people
Reality that good people die
Reality that not everyone gets their happily ever after

Hell, most people don't

When the first wave is finally gone
and you had just enough time to catch your breath
from drowning underwater
Another wave comes
knocking you off your feet

You scramble for the surface
but the water keeps pulling you down

Again
Again

Until you're desperate for those glasses
Thinking anything can be better than this
I'd rather live a lie than drown everyday
from the reality of life
Right?

Where the **** are my glasses
