Just as I depart, you beckon me
Essentially, all we are is
Separated, detached in more ways than one
"Stop romanticizing" I used to chant
It didn't make a difference
Couldn't quell a fire
As strong as this

Just as I object, you charm me,
Engage me with fervor
Still I wonder if the objections will ever
Stop you from your profession.
Is it not clear to you?
Couldn't be clearer
A fire such as this

Just as we embrace, we leave each other
Endlessly fleeing each other, but
Still burns the flame
Still seeps through my eyes to yours,
Imperfectly interdigitating
Can you feel it?
A love such as this
