I want to invent myself,
In such a way that even sunshine,
Raises to meet my cheeks,
Or flowers bloom,
In the shade of my footprints.
Light falls from my smiles,
As contagious as laughter.
I want to invent myself,
So that all those around me can share in my cheer.
But Instead,
I slumber in darkness,
The past a rusty chain,
Twisting my ankles,
As I long to break free.
Yet Iā€™m too much a coward to run.
I want to invent myself,
So even in this unrelenting darkness,
Those around me smile with light.
