an overhead crow

flat on my back
in the loft
of my uncle’s
barn
where I
thought to please
my father

and resolved
I would not
be like
my shadow

she who
upright
confessed
so loudly
that her heart

flew

into a quiet
sky

     and she collapsed

angel scene*

when on the path
some small
unnamed
creature
senses
the oblivious
coming
of a man

and wishes
in its own
animal way
to be called
into ash
or bush
