Dec 2017
For some, of course, Christmas is not the same
Lonely nights and lots of pain
Walking the streets late at night, heads hung low, dog by their side
Searching for somewhere safe to lay their head, somewhere to be their bed
Maybe a park bench or under the bridge, shop storefronts keep them warm and dry
Until the morning comes and they move on by
Trying to keep from being seen, lest people who don't know them treat them mean
Some sit begging for a handout or a hand up
Hands wrapped around a Costa Coffee Cup
Trying to keep the last of the warmth in their bones
Some dull the pain by becoming ******
All they ask is do not judge if you don't know their story
Perhaps take the time to help out a bit, donate some clothes or gifts
Pay forward drinks in coffee shops, especially this time of year
And help in some small way to raise a bit of Christmas Cheer
Homelessness is a real problem for adults and children too.
I can't say I know a lot about it but this year we have had a toy drive in work for the Salvation Army and it was heartening to see the number of gifts donated.
