I might be just plain "black" to you but there is more to my color.
-
For I am the night sky
That kisses the earth
In its sleep.
-
I'm loved by the man in the moon
And the tides during a  midnight breeze.
-
"Beautiful" doesn't justify the way my soul glows in the darkest Corners of the seas.
-
"Strong" doesn't justify my heart that has been
Dipped in a pit of white folk's laughter -
-
Freedom was once the man dressed in white
Who came to hand me hope in my nightmares
-
So when freedom finally walked into my life
With its own feet, who are you to try and put me through it all again. -
Who are you?
To make me feel ashamed of my past.
To skepticize my ancestors.
They aren't to be taken lightly as a feather
For they have fought through years that
Felt as heavy as boulders, not just on their shoulders but in their hearts.
-
Who are you?
To say "******"
Like you have the right
When all you did was
Add more tears to their
Days that reeked of blood.
-
Please tell me who you are
AND WHAT RIGHT YOU HAVE.
