they're the color of coffee
with some cream in it
there's a reason i call him 'coffee beans'
that's what he runs on.
they remind me of tree bark
which in turn reminds me of him
a hard exterior to protect what's underneath.
there are times when they're dark
the color of meted chocolate
reminding me of what
he tends to do to me.
they're soft and harsh
light and dark
reminding me
of the paradox we are
