Twenty-nine years ago
a senior in my college days
the truth came to me in the night

there I dreamt I was allured
to an object that most demurred
as I approached to longingly gaze

the start of yearning filled my head
awareness kin to creeping dread
what did this mean for a young soul?

revelation had tapped my arm
said look here son, don't be alarmed
there's no harm if that’s what you want

it was a dream so none did see
what filled my vision behind the veil
yet in my heart thought was conceived

alternatives were thus revealed
I’m awake I’ll have you know
from the dreams my path was set

now I'm true to my self
decades turned on the wheel
still I honor sleep's message.
