Mourning’s Bed
One of four
polar of white
shelter turned
to mourning’s bed
in ancient caves
bulls foretold
Latin’s lingo
towards present day.
In the rich soil
fertility
protection granted
against the dead
turned to hex
cruelty
brutality
with evil’s stain.
The Romans foretold
our future affairs
by business men
with money’s spore
mourning loss
witches’ spell
profit’s magic
buys elegance.
This devil’s shade
assumed by those
seeking power
of their own
on clothe of clergy
executives
less prestigious
than crimson tints.
These frame the words
on paper’s face
red letter phrases
are so blessed
mere mortals scribe
ancestor’s ash
the writer’s shelter
on mourning’s bed.
