I shouted into the tomb of refusals
It was as I feared
There wasn’t even an echo
Indifference had shuttered her memory
A response was not worthy of being heard
Yet a faint sound melted away the silence
For once the sad song was about me
A song I never cared for
Suddenly had meaning
Because it was about you
And me
But who played the notes you never heard?
Who wrote the words about a dream you never shared?
For once I wondered
About how a stranger
Could know me so well
I wonder if he knew you
