Do you hear me, mother moon?
at night when I cry to you?
howling -- my eyes lifted towards the sky

Where have you gone mama?
I don't see your face no more
now that I live,
on the west side of the projects
my window blocked by branches
and plastic bags

I can't see you but I know you're there
gazing down upon me
sending your light and protection
to fill my nostrils as I breathe in,
slow and deep
making my belly full
as if I were with child
