The Daughter's Cage
She says I'm black and white,
I must say she's right.
He says I'm hard as stone,
The truth is clearly shown.
Yet the picture that you've painted
I have always truly hated.
It takes away beauty, my light
Clips the wings of a heart in flight.
The colors in my art
Show there's something in my heart.
A spirit that wants to fly free,
And that is who I must be.
I will make the world my own
A light long hidden, rarely shown.
Of black and white, and rock in hand,
I'll paint the cage and make a stand.
