Staithes Dog
It lollops along
the soggy sand
in the sun,
all for a ball
its owner has thrown
towards the water,
rolling past tourists
in shorts, sandels,
sunglasses.
Its tongue *****
lackadaisically
out his mouth,
not a care in the world
on this August day
on the north-east coast.
Written: March 2012.
Explanation: A poem about a dog I saw in Staithes, Yorkshire while on holiday in the area in 2011.
