I must always
remind myself
that the world
is not a perfect
place

lovers argue,
great days go
by without a
celebration,
and sometimes
it rains when
you could use
a little sunshine

when the thunder crackled
this morning, I saw an omen
in that

not from fear of fate,
nor from superstition

there was simply the
air of the future about
it

so I reminded myself
that this world was not
a perfect one

and what was once bleak,
now seemed a blessed gift
in comparison
