The nightmares I’ve had
of my black father
getting hurt
by local white people
from the police
in front of me
to the white people
in front of me
with the confederate flags
who used to threaten us for not being white
and try to beat us up at our birthday parties
try to outnumber us
but always got beat
because of how little of a joke
it actually was
