The Ledge
Looking down from the edge
I think about the pledge.
I can hear the birds
as I listen to the words.
"I pledge to the land
I will hold out my hand.
I'll help my neighbors
with their physical labors.
I pledge to my loved ones
I'll be here till they have sons.
To help raise them all
and catch them when they fall.
I pledge to me
there's lots to see.
It's not time to go,
the answer is no."
This speaks to me deep,
and I start to weep.
As I recite the pledge,
I turn away from the ledge.
