I remember the tar stuck to my shoe, penny and patent,
a hot summer
staphylinid female with
wiry rotten acorn hair
swollen fingers red running
through the autumn dirt
the forest floor
Japanese maples, Douglas firs
purulent nailbed and
the window rolled down:
air whips like a riding crop,
I close it back up
