Life Liberty and the Pursuit
of never catching a breath,
leaving a house wreck
in the yard where
I thought there were flowers.
The garden where
my mother spent hours
growing vegetables
she'd always over cook.
Her sweet potatoes baked bitter
no butter made it better.

So I decided to grow on my own,
to grab a gasp of air that
will never let me choke.
