The day I saw a Turnip for the very first time, I was a young child with a curious mind. I walked up to the strange plant half sticking out of the ground. I touched it's leaves and many lessons I found. The first thing I learned from the odd little plant is to love the feel of the dark cool earth, I lay down beside the plant and felt the softness of the garden and how the Turnip seemed to enjoy the dirt. The next thing I was taught by the odd little plant was to never give up, for when I tried to pluck one out of the ground, it would not come up. I sat down frustrated because I had failed, but then my mother gave one a twist and a tug and she prevailed. When we took it inside and washed it all clean, I couldn't wait to taste the wonderful treat. To my disappointment and still today this is true or at least was so to a young child, that not all things that taste bad are bad for you. I bit into a piece of the white bitter root and nothing good came of my reaction but my parents laugh and a hoot. So I now know more than I did so long ago. Many lessons I learned from a Turnip that I watched quietly grow.
