today i'll sit and watch the rain
those delicate drops call up images of our date,
the time you gave me your rain jacket,
and remind me of the tears i've spilled over you
for a minute you were worth my $20 mascara

today i'll drive through the rain to our church
the place we met, the walls stained this time around
i'm not sure which my heart can't take, which will be worse,
having to endure seeing you there or
knowing you stayed away because of me.
either will be a sucker punch in my gut,
a total knock out, my hardest fall

today i'll sit and watch the rain,
wishing you had never come around,
wishing you would just come around.
