Mar 2015
us,
I let my hand hang free for taking,
And you took it in yours.
The street was so barren and the air so bitter,
But your thumb circled mine -
As my mind circled the thought of us.
Us.
Such a sweetly simple term,
Spoken so softy, spoken so new.
Yet there we were - hand in hand.
We strolled aimlessly,
Through the streets we'd grown up with,
Mesmerized by each other's wild gaze.
Little did we know that we each felt so much.

We soon unlaced our fingers,
And turned our separate ways -
Summoned by our own insecurities.
Both so young and afraid,
Not yet willing to outgrow this silly phase,
To turn us into something real.
Us.
Such a sweetly simple term,
But spoken so hushed, as if forgotten - us.
