May 2011
Accept the nickels that reflect
Sunlight
From the corner of every sky
In the right of the tight night
I lifted my voice
And lowered my head
Heartbreak is a disease
That lasts a lifetime
For heartbreak is a thing
That has many forms
Like a bottle slipped from the hand of the bar man
Or a newly wed losing her newly appointed wedding ring
Or Lucifer being cast out
Because His brother can't take a joke
These stories of lore and old
That are printed, shipped, and sold
Wheezing from the sneezing of the dust upon these shelves
Where was the smile
When one discovered that love
Is just a four letter word?
A four letter catastrophe that links it "all" together
That separates us from the animals
Though I see no distinct distinction
But a lie is another type of show
A card trick played
By the man with the multicolored bow
A lie holds within it all the secrets of mystery
As well as the beautiful stench
Of the smoldering truth
To dance upon hard graves of half n' half illusion
Where dirt, worms and confetti collide
Is where I hope to rest
To never again lie
But arrest me now
To test my grounds
For' tonight
I hear
There will be a steady rain
